Seven Brethren Car Park
Over the years the site at Seven Brethren has had a variety of different purposes, however in more recent history it was repurposed as the North Devon Leisure Centre, until they relocated to another nearby location. Constructing on a site with a varied history such as this one can present unique challenges, but successful development here highlights that even the most unassuming sites can have huge and exciting potential.
Progress
The car park was completed in January 2025 and is now in use by the local community. The site was located near to the usual location of the Barnstaple Fair; a local annual tradition, so particular care has been taken to ensure that this event was not compromised.Â
Our plan was to develop this brownfield site into a 328 space-long stay carpark, providing much-needed increase in parking capacity for the town of Barnstaple. It was undertaken in partnership with North Devon District Council and began with the demolition of the old North Devon Leisure Centre. It was built with a sustainable approach, reusing crushed concrete from the demolition to form part of the car park’s working platform. The trees that were removed to facilitate development were chipped and used for habitat enhancement. This approach reduced waste and minimized the environmental impact of the construction.
